34th Annual Herzogstand Walk
Special Events /

29/04/2015 - 18:41

Thursday May 14th 2015 is Christi Himmelfahrt (Ascension Day) when the traditional GEA walk up the Herzogstand takes place, this year for the 34th time!.
The Herzogstand is a foothill of the Alps in a very picturesque location. The walk, though steep in parts, is suitable for any moderately fit person.

We walk for two hours up the easy path (Reitweg) to the Herzogstandhaus where we have lunch.
Another 30 mins. stroll takes us to the summit (1731m), with magnificent views over 5 Bavarian lakes.
The walk down takes about an hour and a half. We are usually back in München by 18:00, except for those who stop on the way back for Kaffee und Kuchen at the "Grauer Bär" café in Kochel.

We meet at Giesinger Bahnhofplatz (U/S-Bahn) outside the Burger-King at 08:15.
We travel by car-sharing, leaving promptly at 08:30.
Please ring me to reserve a place in a car.
Car-drivers, please call me to offer a place in your car.

We drive south on the Garmischer Autobahn, take the exit Kochel/Murnau, drive through Kochel towards Mittenwald and park the cars at Kesselberg, as close to the top of the pass as possible.

Please wear sensible walking shoes – we may have to walk a little on snow this year - and bring a rain-jacket with you as it may be cool or raining at the top.
